What it does
Every published free-tier app carries a "Made with Replit" badge in the corner. Clicks on the badge: - Drive traffic to replit.com. - Earn the original creator 50 credits (usable for agent credits). - Upgrading removes the badge.
Evidence
- Replit - Publish App โ "Remove 'Made with Replit' badge" row with description:
"Your Replit login includes a 'Made with Replit' referral badge. When someone taps or clicks the badge, you'll receive 50 credits that you can use for app creation. If you want, you can upgrade to not see this badge."
Why this is a good growth mechanic
This is a textbook viral-loop + monetization combo:
- Distribution. Every free-tier app is an ad for Replit. No advertising spend; users generate the inventory for free.
- Creator incentive. Credits reward creators for keeping the badge โ aligns creator self-interest with Replit's distribution.
- Monetization on embarrassment. Users who feel the badge looks amateur upgrade to remove it. Pricing a feeling, not a feature. Classic freemium pattern.
- Clean segmentation. Free users become a distribution channel; paying users become revenue. No conflict.
Famous analogs: Typeform's "Made with Typeform" watermark in early days, Notion's public-page footer, Intercom's "We use Intercom" chat launcher. All used this pattern to scale virally.
Pricing math
50 credits per click is a non-trivial reward. If an agent action costs ~5-50 credits (unknown exact economics), a single click could pay for a meaningful chunk of agent work. Users optimizing for credits have a real incentive to publish widely.
Differentiators vs Anything.com
- No equivalent in Anything.com โ no "Made with Anything" badge captured. Would mesh well with their indie-maker ICP.
